# Firmware Update

{% hint style="danger" %}
All STRIKEPACK HORIZON™ products require a firmware update to use the STRIKEPACK HORIZON app.
{% endhint %}

## Update Firmware

Updating the firmware is a necessary part of owning a Collective Minds™ product. You’ll need access to a device capable of performing the update, whether at home, a friend’s place, a coffee shop, library, or workplace.

**Firmware updates must be performed using a WIRED connection**.

1. **Disconnect the STRIKEPACK HORIZON from your controller.**\
   It’s easier to perform the update with the adapter detached.
2. **Connect the STRIKEPACK HORIZON to a compatible device for updating.**\
   Using the included cable, or another suitable cable, connect the STRIKEPACK HORIZON to a **PC**, **Mac®**, **Chromebook™**, or **Android™** device.
   * *<mark style="color:$danger;">**iOS® devices block wired updating!**</mark> You **CANNOT** update STRIKEPACK HORIZON firmware using an iPhone® or iPad®. Firmware updates also **CANNOT** be performed through your console.*
3. Open the **Google Chrome**™ browser and visit the **Web Update Tool** at [**https://firmware.collectivemindsstore.com**](https://firmware.collectivemindsstore.com/)
4. Follow the **on-screen instructions** until the update is complete. Wait for the progress indicator to completely finish **before unplugging the STRIKEPACK HORIZON**.
5. The **STRIKEPACK HORIZON** app will notify you if your firmware is outdated. Firmware updates are *not* released that often.
6. **PS5® / DualSense® users:** Make sure your STRIKEPACK HORIZON is updated to **firmware 1.5.0**.
7. **Xbox® users:** Make sure your STRIKEPACK HORIZON is updated to **firmware 3.2.0**.
8. **Update your controller as well.**
   * Keeping your controller firmware up to date can help avoid pairing issues.
9. **Need more help?** Watch the videos below for step-by-step instructions.

The STRIKEPACK HORIZON will display a continuous spectrum of RGB LEDS, indicating "<mark style="color:blue;">**U**</mark><mark style="color:purple;">**p**</mark><mark style="color:orange;">**d**</mark><mark style="color:red;">**a**</mark><mark style="color:yellow;">**t**</mark><mark style="color:green;">**e**</mark> <mark style="color:purple;">**M**</mark><mark style="color:orange;">**o**</mark><mark style="color:red;">**d**</mark><mark style="color:yellow;">**e**</mark>", and the Web Update Tool will now detect the STRIKEPACK HORIZON, allowing you to update it.

***

Use the included USB cable to update the STRIKEPACK HORIZON. IF this is *not* an option, make sure your cable is of high quality and supports data transfer, and that it is *not* extended via hubs or extension cables, and *no* longer than 10 ft (3 m).

* <mark style="color:$danger;">**Power**</mark><mark style="color:$danger;">/</mark><mark style="color:$danger;">**charge only or damaged cables are the most common cause of being unable to update**</mark><mark style="color:$danger;">.</mark>

***

Use a **PC**, **Mac**®, **Chromebook™**, or **Android™** phone or tablet to update the STRIKEPACK.

* <mark style="color:$danger;">**iOS devices block wired updating**</mark><mark style="color:$danger;">,</mark> so you <mark style="color:$danger;">**cannot**</mark> update the firmware via an iOS device (iPhone/iPad), or your console for that matter.

Update using the **Google Chrome™** browser. Other browsers like Edge™ and Firefox® may work fine, but some, like Safari™, will block the Web Update Tool from operating.

## (Optional) Memory Clear

A "**Memory Clear**" will remove any remnants of the previous firmware and prevent related issues. This *will not* affect your STRIKEPACK HORIZON app settings, but it may resolve otherwise unexplained issues. Perform a Memory Clear with the STRIKEPACK HORIZON attached or detached from your controller by following the video instructions below:

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://guide.strikepack.com/horizon/firmware-update.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
