{% hint style="warning" %}
**Initial Setup** covers mandatory **Controller Layout** and **Stick Settings** that need to be *matched* to your in-game controls. Many features rely on this to function correctly, including **Recoil Assist**. If you mess up, these settings can be revisited later from he **Settings** screen (top-right <i class="fa-gear-complex">:gear-complex:</i> **Gear** button).

<mark style="color:blue;">**In the video above,**</mark> you'll learn about **Initial Setup** in the **STRIKEPACK HORIZON** app.

* Available in **Shooter Studio**, this feature appears when you first enter a **New Profile**.

<mark style="color:blue;">**Written Steps:**</mark>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
The **First Step** is your **Hardware Setup:**

You'll want to make sure the **Controller Layout** mappings shown here *match your in-game controls perfectly*. Keeping in mind in-game terminology can vary among equivalent in-game functions. For example:

* <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FsUgzRD8aE22qsSxZ4cmI%2FTap_Icon.svg?alt=media&amp;token=70edd8e3-3389-4437-ae55-60bc2b67ec86" alt="" data-size="line"> **Tap** the drop-down arrow to expand **ADS**.
  * Most shooters feature Aim Down Sights, Scope, or Zoom.
  * By default, it's assumed your game uses <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FSMItG6tUkLOSijgzc2j1%2FPS_L2.svg?alt=media&amp;token=df5a4ab5-8fa2-45ee-9d48-2829ba26ec7f" alt="" data-size="line"> <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2Fx6AIiYcgKqZ6jgSpyHVX%2FXB_LT.svg?alt=media&amp;token=4a103bd3-939c-45e6-b453-5c796d120df9" alt="" data-size="line"> **Left Trigger** for this function, and it's currently highlighted and selected.
  * If your game has ***NO*** such function, simply <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FsUgzRD8aE22qsSxZ4cmI%2FTap_Icon.svg?alt=media&amp;token=70edd8e3-3389-4437-ae55-60bc2b67ec86" alt="" data-size="line"> **tap** the highlighted on-screen button to deselect it.
  * Otherwise, select the on-screen button that matches your in-game controls and close the drop-down.
  * Another example is **Crouch**. The default setting assumes it's on <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FLBpPQT5PvIQ1UWuQcyoq%2FPS_Circle.svg?alt=media&amp;token=97c23db5-7ef1-4db5-b89d-0d7bd3c4fec9" alt="" data-size="line"> <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FCHkF3PX1D6nsfJ5mPGfI%2FXB_B.svg?alt=media&amp;token=af3d5713-fb98-4b96-bd06-4bfdae0a130b" alt="" data-size="line"> **Circle/B**.
    &#x20;But many gamers set their in-game Crouch to <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2F8CjbnIYz2nRe93QYN7h5%2FPS_R3.svg?alt=media&amp;token=126d4ad2-79b2-450f-a18f-19f2eff56e3b" alt="" data-size="line"> <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FSiEUf6x6c2YBJOkm8zhi%2FXB_RS.svg?alt=media&amp;token=c30e040b-84de-49a2-896b-31a9b9a4dc3d" alt="" data-size="line"> **Right Stick Press**, and would need to match that here.
  * Not every game has a **Ping** or suitable Target Mark function. Again, either deselect or change the on-screen button to match.

***

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
For **Stick Settings**, *match* your in-game controls. If you're using a different Stick Layout or Invert Vertical or Horizontal Look, match it here.

* **NOTE:** In-game Legacy Stick Layouts which split the aim and movement axes between the sticks are currently unavailable to select. They are currently ***NOT*** supported by any macros that use movement or aiming controls.

***

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
For **Accessibility Settings**, you can change the **Activator** button that you <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FxT7FIHbTERFS4pADe5WD%2FHold_Icon.svg?alt=media&amp;token=c91a88e9-b17c-4fde-82e8-57e6317ee14c" alt="" data-size="line"> <mark style="color:$danger;">**hold**</mark> for **Controller Shortcut** commands:

* Activator defaults to <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FD5RM9RL5jMdIbXH2tWCB%2FPS_Touchpad.svg?alt=media&amp;token=48b924b1-4439-4d3f-ad49-d67d85959152" alt="" data-size="line"> <img src="https://1841283601-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFYraHizgjOptWmwCAGKE%2Fuploads%2FNQJSlPIVWVECmllyCygi%2FXB_View.svg?alt=media&amp;token=edc3f212-0738-4232-8f95-f09ad55ccd5f" alt="" data-size="line"> **Touchpad/View**, but you may wish to assign it to one of the STRIKEPACK HORIZON's four numbered **Action Buttons** (Paddles) instead.
* As everything is doable on the app, you can even disable Controller Shortcuts altogether by deselecting the on-screen button.

You can toggle on **Left/Right Hair Triggers** independently to maximize their sensitivity, essentially turning them into standard buttons.

In-game **Toggle ADS** is ***NOT*** supported by any macros that rely on your ADS button to activate. It, along with in-game **Toggle Crouch**, don't work well with **Stance Tracking**. Macros simply work better with buttons you're meant to hold.

* **Sticky Buttons** serves as an excellent alternative, able to turn any button you would normally have to hold into a toggle button.

***

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
The **Second Step** is to **Choose Your Path:**

* If you have a profile .txt file you've previously backed up or received online, you can simply <i class="fa-file-arrow-up">:file-arrow-up:</i> **Import Existing Profile**. This is by far the best option to get up and running quickly.
* If not, choose a **Quick Start Template**—**Loadout** works well for most standard shooters.
* Don't think too hard... The template can be changed later by editing the **Loadout**.
  {% endstep %}
  {% endstepper %}

***

<i class="fa-hands-clapping" style="color:$success;">:hands-clapping:</i> <mark style="color:$success;">**You're ready to build out your Game Profile Settings!**</mark>

* Don't worry if you missed anything. All of the settings that were just covered can be accessed throughout Shooter Studio.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://guide.strikepack.com/horizon/strikepack-horizon-app-guide/shooter-studio-guide/4-initial-setup.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
